The weather is really getting crisp here, so we don't know how much more high mountain hiking we'll be able to do this fall. On top of it, a lot of the lifts shut down mid-October until ski season starts. We took this hike in the Appenzeller region having heard great things about the setting. It was a cold, grey, rainy day--certainly not a good hiking day, but as we rode the cable car up, we broke through the clouds and into dazzling sunlight. Ebenalp was very crowded that day--it seemed like everyone in Switzerland had gone up to escape the drizzle.
We finally broke away from the crowds to tackle an amazing ridge trail with lots of wires to hold. All day we had perfect sun while the clouds hovered in the valleys below.
