Wandern: Gumen to Bützi to Bärentritt to Braunwald

We took what might be our favorite Swiss hike this past weekend--see the link above for a map. After a short train ride into the Glarner Alps, we took a seilbahn up to the town of Braunwald, which like Gimmelwald is a car-free town. Apparently Braunwald is also known for its roses.

From the town we walked to one of the two cable cars, the Gumenbahn.

This cable car was the best ride we've ever had--it was long, fast, and steep. There were a few enclosed cars, but we preferred to sit in the open ones and watch the distant mountains flying by.

  1. You do hear my screams all the way from here don't you!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH
You've got to be kidding! Long, fast, steep AND open?

The first picture looks like the same kind of little cable thingy we took in Scotland, but they called it a "funicular". Slow, slow, and enclosed. My kind of thingy.
